SETTING UP A TEMPORARY HOME OFFICE
Hello my humans!
What a roller coaster 2020 has been! And to think we aren't even halfway...Jeez!
I am going to take a guess and say that most of you have been forced by the current circumstances to work from home either entirely or to some degree.
If you are someone with a 9 to 5 job, I would bet that there wasn’t a home office beautifully set up waiting to be utilized in the event that a pandemic struck and we had to be distanced from each another! Unfortunately, this is our reality now.
The adjustment to working from home might be a bit of a challenge especially if you did not have a dedicated space to do so initially. Like a friend of mine, you may have had to set up shop on your kitchen or dining table because the show must go on!
You may be overwhelmed by all the ideas out there on how to quickly convert a corner of your house into a temporary home office that inspires productivity. You would be surprised to know that even the most unlikely corners can function as a work area. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
I hope these few tips can be of help as you adjust to the new normal
Use existing furniture: You can use existing furniture as your work desk such as a console table or even dressing table. I would recommend a using a piece of furniture that has got a reasonable height for ergonomic reasons.
Make use of an extra room: If you’ve got extra rooms, use one that’s frequented less often. Guest rooms are a great place to start. This will grant you a level of privacy and create a space where you can focus especially if your household is blessed with kids!
Keep it clutter-free and organized
This is so important especially if you have set up your temporary office within another room like your living room. Try and store supplies and stationery in storage boxes.
Maintain a simple unified colour scheme: Keep your colour scheme simple: let it gel with the existing environment.
Add personal accents: Add accents that bring you both peace and pleasure. For instance, a potted plant and/or a picture frame of your loved ones adds a personal touch.
Bonus tip - Don’t forget the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. Respect your new office space and treat it as such. Take breaks, have meals and other social activities in a separate space to allow for that transition from work to life.
Until next time,
xxxx
