EXCITEMENT IS COMMON. ENDURANCE IS RARE

Hello my humans!

Before we go any further, I have a confession. I’m the type of person who usually gets overly excited about an upcoming project. However, when the time comes to put in the work, I easily get discouraged and demoralized.

Now, I know I’m not alone. Most of the time, we get so enthusiastic about new ideas (in this instance, home styling projects is our main focus). We almost always forget to calculate the amount of time and effort required to bring our projects to life. When reality finally dawns on us, our excitement bubble soon becomes deflated.

It’s no lie, interior and home styling projects are so much fun. Even just the thought of them!

We have a vision, we brainstorm ideas, we create mood boards, we screenshot inspirational images, we spend hours on end scrolling on Pinterest and the list can go on. With this being said, have you ever wondered why it is so difficult to put ongoing effort into present witful action? What are some of the things that can be setbacks? Why is it so laborious to sit down and decipher the costs needed to undertake a project?

I wish I could ease your mind by saying that I have an answer to offer that would magically provide a solution, but I’m afraid that I don't. What I do know, is that it takes a determined attempt to transform a vision into action. I should mention that I am also preaching to myself when it comes to this as I am very much in the process of learning.

I would like to share some approaches that are proving to work for me:

  • Put all your ideas down on paper.

At this point, you have obviously identified the need and/or desire to redo, style or update a particular room. The next step should be to collate all the different ideas that inspire you in one place and create a vision for the project. This could range from your choice of colour-palette, your desired theme, your options when it comes to furniture and fixtures etc. There's just something about writing things down that allows you to put everything into perspective and help bring ideas to life.

  • Refuse to be put off by the cost of your project.

Let’s be honest, there are times when our desires do not necessarily match the depths of our pockets. But worry not! Where there is a will, there is a way. Trust me, knowing the cost of a project is so much better than being oblivious about it. It puts you in a place where you can plan accordingly, apportion your project and break it down into manageable tasks and ultimately set you up for success.

  • Last but not least, do not be afraid to ask for help!

Be it professional or personal, I would suggest talking to someone about your upcoming project. It helps a great deal to gather insight from multiple resources. You can do this by indulging in blogs and podcasts. And if you can, hire an interior designer/stylist and let them do the work for you. It is why we are here: to listen to you, to lessen your burden and gladly take the weight off your shoulders by being a resource to guide you through creating that space that you envisioned in your mind.

So please, let it not start and end with excitement. Endure the process, the results are so much sweeter than you could ever imagine! I also love to applaud progress, so please feel free to share snippets of your journey in the comment section below.

Until next time,
