HOW TO DECORATE A BEDROOM; FALL MADLY IN LOVE WITH YOUR BEDROOM
Every room tells a story. Each room has its own character that is defined by both its functionality and the complexity or simplicity it holds.
If you are anything like me, you probably have that one special room that you love a little more than others! If it isn't already obvious, I’m particularly drawn to the bedroom and I am not just referring to my bedroom, which, FYI, I’m madly in love with, but any beautifully styled bedroom I set my eyes on. Be it a client’s or on some beautiful Instagram account.
The other day I found myself asking two questions, “Why do I love the bedroom?” and “What would make someone instantly fall in love with one?”
I jotted down my thoughts and so here’s my unsolicited opinion:
I think the bedroom represents such a personal space (the toilet too, but technically, I reckon we spend more time in the bedroom, so let’s stick to that). You can therefore easily create a luxe and soothing atmosphere that perfectly suits you. The nature of the space allows for one to be able to express themselves in unlimited ways through design and/or style choices that are not only practical but aesthetically pleasing.
So here are 4 simple ways that you can uplift your bedroom and help you fall madly in love with the space.
This beats the purpose of a bedroom - a space which is ideally supposed to be calm and soothing, especially after you’ve spent so much time in the hustle and bustle of the world.
Lighting makes a huge difference
Incorporate either bedside lamps or a floor lamp placed at a corner in the room for a cosy and comfortable ambience. Choosing the warm bulbs over the cold harsh fluorescent lighting will create a warm mood and the perfect finishing touch to your room
Have fun with pillows and throws
Add personality, colour and fun by using pillows of different sizes and throws with different textures. Please be mindful of the size of your bed. What you don't want to have is sixteen pillows on your little single bed. Please don’t suffocate the poor thing!
SmS tip: Throw pillows are mainly decorative so don’t put too much thought into the functionality as far as purchasing them is concerned. As long as you’ve got the main pillows you actually lay your head on, the rest are used for your mandatory home workout every morning and night when you have to take them off the bed and onto the bed!
Add some green life.
I should make a disclaimer that I’m neither a plant expert nor have I studied them much. That being said, I have come to learn of the amazing benefits of having plants in your space. Plants are known to create an overall sense of wellbeing as well as reducing stress and anxiety levels. They are known to brighten up a room, boost your mood, purify the air and even help you sleep better.
With such great benefits I’d take a plant any day! Be advised that you definitely need to incorporate a plant care routine to keep those babies nourished and thriving! My all time favorite bedroom plant is the snake plant. It’s such a low maintenance plant and it would take a lot to kill it so don’t you worry.
(Bonus Point!) Your walls, ceiling and floor take up the largest surface area in the room.
Please ensure the colours and patterns that you use are complimentary. For a more calming and soothing effect, you might want to use light or darker versions of one colour. If you love your pops of colour, by all means play around with them. Just ensure that the focal points in the room are not in competition to stand out.
I hope this was helpful and I can’t wait to see what you do with your bedroom. Kindly let me know if you are a lover of your room or what you’ve done to fall in love with it.
Remember, we are creating spaces that bring us both peace and pleasure!
Until next time,
