RENOVATING AN OLD DEAR FLAT

Happy April and Happy Easter to you!

I would like to hope that 2021 is treating you well. Even though she resembles her cousin 2020, let's continue to keep the faith, to be hopeful and to find joy in whatever’s in front of us however mundane or small.

I went all vulnerable on my previous blog and the outcome was extremely liberating and heart warming! I would like to thank you for sending out love and positive feedback. It never goes unappreciated. I have since relocated to Kenya and as soon as I landed (obviously after self quarantining), I embarked on my very first home renovation. Check out the pre-reno house tour here

The house is about 70 years old. It is a one-bedroom flat that once belonged to someone very dear to me (more on this at a later blog). We are 4 weeks in and I can report that there’s been tremendous progress. The experience so far has been rewarding and I have bagged a ton of lessons in the past few weeks that would probably have taken years in school to grasp (now, I'm not advocating for university dropouts) but this learning on the job phenomenon is REAL!!!

Long story short, the reason I'm here is to simply launch a series where I’ll be uploading a blogpost per fortnight highlighting the progress of the renovation with the hope that you’d grasp a tip or two, have an Aha moment as far as remodelling a home is concerned,  or just be entertained for what it's worth. I would also need to record this journey, so it's a win-win situation!

We’ve so far been able to demolish the bathroom and leave it unrecognizable just so we could repair the plumbing and electricals. Both these jobs are quite technical and they require a level of expertise. I would recommend you steer away from the DIY bug if neither plumbing or electrical work is your forte. You would rather invest and get a professional onboard to save yourself multiple headaches in the future!

This week we shall hopefully  get on with the tiling and fittings...and start in the kitchen too.

Excited to have you on board!!!...Let’s laugh and learn together

Until next time
